Esmeralda Cortez Rosales

Program Manager, Oakland

Pronouns: She/Her

Born and raised in East Oakland and after her brother’s life was taken due to gun violence, Esmeralda dedicated her life to fight for the liberation of those most impacted by cycles of poverty and institutional violence.

Prior to joining Young Women’s Freedom Center, Esmeralda served as IGNITE’s West Coast Program Manager where she created space for women to own their political power so they too can fight for a more equitable country. Whether it was fighting for Oakland Youth as a sworn in youth commissioner for the City of Oakland, or running for City Council at the age of 22, Esmeralda will always have the people’s liberation at the center of her work.

Esmeralda enjoys going to cars and coffee in her SRT, reading books, and hanging out with her cat and dog.
